Oklahoma State Report Card vs Texas Tech

PhotobucketOffense: B
Passing: C
Rushing: A-

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are lucky that there are two halves of a football game, cause if we were just grading the first half you would have to give the 'Boys an F, perhaps a D at the most. They were awful, plain and simple. For one thing the offensive line had only given up four sacks all year long. They gave up 3 sacks in the first half. Terrible.

The running game wasn't that much better. The Cowboys are the top running team in the Big 12 and they only rushed for 36 yards in the first half and only had 95 total yards of offense.

The second half was another story. The offense and particularly the offensive line came alive and marched up and down the field on long time consuming drives. They rushed for 207 yards in the second half for 243 rushing yards total.

Zac Robinson led the rushing attack with 99 yards, which is good cause he only throw for 90 yards. The passing game left something to be desired...

Defense: A

You have to like the way the Pokes played defense against the high flying offense of Texas Tech. The Cowboys held Tech to just 357 total yards of offense. Tech was averaging nearly 470 yards of offense per game. They average 418.6 yards passing and the Cowboys defense held them to just 307 yards. The rushing defense was solid only allowing 50 yards rushing. Although Texas Tech is not really that much of a rushing team.

The Red Raiders were also scoring nearly 40 points a game and the Pokes only let them score 17. This was also a major improvement from the last couple of years when the Cowboys gave up 56 points in 2008 and and 45 points in 2007.

Special Teams: C

This grade might seem a little low but there really wasn't anything of not to speak of in the special teams area.

Perrish Cox didn't have that great of a day returning kicks and punts. There were no big gains in that area.

Dan Bailey did make his field goal and all the extra points. Quinn Sharp was ok in the punting game averaging 41 yards for his six punts, but he did have a wounded duck of a punt that could have been a lot better.

Overall the grades are pretty good for the Cowboys against the Red Raiders. It was a well played and a hard fought game. Luckily for the Cowboys their defense are stepping up their play this year and helped to shut down Tech. Good game 'Boys, now get focused on those lowly Colorado Buffaloes for when they come to town this Thursday.
